To those who’ve known me for years (or worked with me for any length of time), it should come as no surprise that the possible end of my grocery diet experiment has been brought about by my greatest and oldest ally (or is that nemesis?): Coffee.

Waking up this morning in a Benadryl haze for an early UPS run before work, without the luxury of time to make a pot of coffee at home, I gave in to temptation: lured in passing by one of my favorite local Somerville cafes on the way to the office, I bought the extra-largest joe that would fit in my cup. Damn, and it was officially day one of Week 2 of my project, too…

But does it really have to be over? Here’s my dilemma:

The $20 bill I used to buy that coffee was the result of selling a set of sheets from my off-price retail days to my friend Sean last week…so, does that also count as using what I have, or have I broken the rules and has this grocery diet experiment officially run its course?

It’s a shame, really, that I let my guard down, because I just got the Eat This, Not That Supermarket Survival Guide in the mail from a recent book swap, which I was looking forward to using to evaluate the remaining items in my kitchen inventory.

And I’m meeting up with my friend Alli tonight to exchange my tuxedo-styled Betsey Johnson dress for a box of KOMBUCHA:
