There’s something so satisfying about promoting shopping small for gifts made in Minnesota, land of the first “megamall” and home to the Mall of America, with our first-ever Shop Local Guide to the Holidays. Such cool stuff is coming out of Minneapolis and St. Paul right now, among other places, and we’re super stoked to share just a slice of that pie with these picks for gifts under $50 made in Minnesota.
Be sure to check out the rest of our 250 picks for made in USA holiday gifts under $50 on our new interactive US map, where you’ll find our favorite locally made products by state for her, him, kids, the home, the host/hostess, stocking stuffers, even some for pets!
We might be a tad too obsessed with these trendy accessories from Minneapolis designer Tokara. Between the painted feather earrings and the galaxy print faux leather neckplates/Peter Pan collars, pretty much everything in this shop is a major win-her moment under $50.
Un Petit Monde Prints
Tilt shift technique is seeing a Renaissance right now, and these prints by St. Paul photographer Kurt Moses are beyond cool — not to mention nostalgically hometown proud, like this “North Shore Fishing” print ($45) depicting an idyllic scene on Lake Superior/Two Harbors.
Old Fashioned Slingshot
Despite the refrain from Christmas Story stuck in all of our heads, we think every child should grow up with a slingshot — used with adult supervision, of course — and we love this Old Fashioned Slingshot ($22) from The Original Tree Swing company in Minneapolis. Made from “nuisance weed” Buckthorn branches and natural latex tubing, it’s sure to last for more than one generation (parents willing).
Mrs. Meyers Clean Day
Love cleaning house again when you treat yourself and your home to these super popular all-natural cleaning products, made right in downtown Minneapolis by the real Mrs. Meyers herself, her daughters, and a very big team of locally employed helpers. We’re partial to the Basil scented Kitchen Basics ($10) and adore that every product is available as an eco-friendly refill. If you can find them locally, the sold-out Orange Clove ($12) and Iowa Pine ($12) seasonal gift sets are also quite nice.
FOR THE HOST
DIPPED by Wind & Willow Home
Say what you will about the return of neon in fashion, but we absolutely LOVE that neon accents have crept into home decor trends — especially these hand-dipped wooden bowls ($16 and up) and decorative accessories by Minneapolis designer Araya. Bring a set for your host to keep along with your sides to Christmas dinner or keep them all for yourself, we won’t tell.
J.R. Watkins Head to Toe Kit
Pioneering natural beauty products and home care since 1868, J.R. Watkins has also been the largest employer in Winona, MN for 140 years. Stash this head-to-toe kit in everyone’s stocking this winter (and be sure to keep one for yourself).
