Personal Finance, The Rap Video

This week has been totally insane (read: our cute little ranch house in Austin has been put on the market! more about that later…) so, as usual, I was pretty pumped when my boy J. Money at Budgets Are Sexy shared this baller little diversion. I can always count on Jay to bring the funny and the levity when my financial stress is at breaking point.

Created by Matt Giovanisci and Andrew Fiebert of ListenMoneyMatters.com, the video is an attempt to make personal finance issues go viral — and, much like an Andy Samberg video on SNL, it’s pretty catchy. Like everyone else I’m about sick to death of Macklemore’s overexposure, and I’m not saying that “All My Money” in any way is the new Thrift Shop — though I kinda hope it is, because I could sure use a new budget living anthem, how about you?

“Lorde’s right: Rap music is chock full of really bad financial advice, from spending money on things you don’t need and can’t afford (i.e. Bentleys, Rolexes, etc.), and popping Cristal when Korbel will do. Kanye West and Jay-Z will probably never rap about living within your means and trumping the benefits of budgeting, but the boys at ListenMoneyMatters.com say, ‘if they won’t, we will.’ And they did!”

Amen, brothas.

Watch the video below, then head over to ListenMoneyMatters.com to share it on social media using the hashtag #GangstaFinance for a chance to win some sick prizes.

Stay tuned for more baller personal finance from me and Jay Money next week as we pursue growing our productivity and personal wealth with a second attempt at the 5 Club. You can bet this song will be on repeat in those punchy early morning hours when I have NO business being up!
