I know I sound like a spoiled brat, but as a New England fan, for the first time in years I don’t know who to cheer on in the Super Bowl today. Even though it’s been a long time since I really cared about football (I’m more of a basketball & hockey girl), it still feels weird. Luckily, the thing I’ve always looked forward to the most is the Puppy Bowl.
With two adoptable Italian Greyhounds, Tazer and Sharpie, from ROMP Rescue in Chicago, and a 7-month-old lab puppy named Alanis, whose mom works for the Boston Red Sox, in the mix, you know who I’ll be rooting for. If this video doesn’t put a smile on your face, even if your team didn’t make the playoffs, I don’t know how to connect with you. As a lifelong Bruins fan and skater myself, I’m cheering on puppies named after Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawk players – c’mon with the cute! Even if you don’t have a TV, you can watch the 10th annual Puppy Bowl and the live puppy cam on AnimalPlanet.com.
The other thing I always look forward to on game day are the ads, natch. Controversy aside, I’ve made it known I’m a huge SodaStream fan, and I absolutely love their new Super Bowl ad with spokeswoman Scarlet Johanssen.
I’m also SUPER fired up to see the ad from GoldieBlox, a line of toys for little girls that gets them psyched up about engineering. I contributed to the original GoldieBlox Kickstarter campaign, and have continued cheering them on through this viral campaign and their successful win in the Intuit Small Business challenge to get their ad aired in the game today. If only ALL toys for little girls and boys were this awesome. (Read: “Why Toy Startup GoldieBlox’s Historic $4 Million Super Bowl Ad Win Matter” on Forbes.com.)
What are you doing for the Super Bowl today? Who are you rooting for — the ads, the puppy bowl, or an actual team?
