Happy Christmas Eve Eve! If you’re looking for a last-minute gift idea, need gift tags on the fly, or just something to keep the little ones busy, check out my DIY Home column for Eat Boutique this month featuring my family’s tried-and-true salt dough recipe.
The very first kitchen craft I remember making with my mom was homemade salt dough — aka DIY Play-Doh. At five years old, it was mind-blowing to make the connection that something I loved to play with was also something that I could make myself, at home, with stuff you eat.
I was forever hooked on DIY projects after that, and on making salt dough, in particular. This year, I used the salt dough recipe to make gift tags for all my presents, pressing letter stamps into round ornaments to create personalized nameplates and then spray painting them in copper when they were dry. I also made a keepsake ornament for my mom with Pixie’s paw print, something I always wished we had done with Dante when we had the chance.
If you’re looking for other simple, quick, inexpensive & last-minute DIY gift ideas, check out my Pomander Salt Scrub recipe & DIY oyster shell salt cellar tutorial, also on Eat Boutique this fall/winter.
May the laughter, joy, love & simple pleasures of the season surround you this year and always!
